Illinois U.S. House Candidate Guide: 2024

District 1

Montelle Gaji

A candidate for Illinois District One, the issues Montelle Gaji has stated she looks to solve include stopping unnecessary government spending, taking initiative on the southern border, promoting faith-based leadership, and creating employment opportunities.

Marcus Lewis

Running in Illinois District One, Marcus Lewis’ top priorities include protecting the southern border and the unborn. In an interview with WTTW News, he stated, “The Dobb’s decision just said abortion is a state issue to be decided by the states.  That was the correct decision. I am pro-Life.  I am not for the genocide of humanity.”

 

District 2

Ashley Ramos

A large supporter of the police and other first responders, Ashley Ramos is running in Illinois District Two. When asked about the Dobbs decision, she stated “Abortion access should remain a decision made by each state and is not an issue that belongs in federal legislation. I do not want to see any action put forth to create blanket legislation that takes away the ability for individuals to vote and have a choice on how they approach abortion in each state.“

 

District 3

John Booras

A former attorney and police officer, John Booras is running in Illinois District Three. In reference to the Dobbs decision, he said, “I want to protect States rights to make decisions on reproductive rights issues above the Federal Government.”

 

District 4

No candidates filed for the Republican primary.

 

District 5

Tom Hanson

A real estate broker from the Chicagoland area, Tom Hanson is running in Illinois District Five. He listed his top priority as restructuring the federal health care system, and he believes that abortion legislation should be decided at the state level.

 

District 6

 

Niki Conforti

Currently a healthcare consultant, Niki Conforti is running in Illinois District Six. She targets economic growth as a top priority of her campaign. With regards to abortion, per her campaign website, “I am proudly Pro-Life with exception (Rape, Incest and the Life of the Mother), and I oppose the Democrats’ radical abortion agenda. Sean Casten’s support for taxpayer funded and late term abortions is despicable and is directly in opposition with the values of his constituents. In Congress, I will proudly stand for life.”

 

District 7

Chad Koppie

A retired farmer and jet pilot, Chad Koppie has served on various boards and is currently running in Illinois District Seven. His primary focus is on the pro-life movement; when asked why he was running, Chad stated, “I want to remind all Americans that abortion is murder and that we need a constitutional amendment to ban it.”

District 8

Mark Rice

Having spent much of his career in the energy space, one of the core focuses of Mark Rice’s campaign is to cut energy and inflation costs. When asked about Dobbs, he said, “I am running for US Congress. Because that is a federal office and not a state one I will have  not have a seat at the table in decisions regarding abortion. It is now a state issue since  Dobbs. Illinois as you know is a choice state.”

 

District 9

No candidates filed for the Republican primary.

 

District 10

Jim Carris

The son of a Greek immigrant and a local businessman, Jim Carris is running in Illinois District Ten. His top priorities include the state of the economy, public safety, and national security.

District 11

Susan Hathaway-Altman

Susan Hathaway-Altman is a businesswoman who is running in Illinois District Eleven. Her campaign focuses on the revitalization of the American dream, and when asked about abortion policy after the Dobbs decision, she said “America has more abortion access in 2024 than ever before. In 2020, that access was 77,000 per month, which has increased to 87,000 abortions per month today, up 12% since Dobbs, where now abortion rights reside with states. So nothing on abortion access, however, I will advocate to provide the exact same access to options for motherhood and adoption as there is access to Planned Parenthood.”

Hathaway-Altman has also fostered nine children and adopted one of those children.

Jerry Evans

A small business owner and the founder of a music school, Jerry Evans’ campaign focuses include removing political agendas from public education and promote free-market policies. He also emphasizes protecting the southern border.

O Kent Mecardo

As a physician, Kent Mercado aims to restructure the U.S. healthcare system as a representative from Illinois District Eleven. He also advocates for free-market policies and protecting the southern border, as well as creating incentives for legal immigration. When asked about abortion policy after the Dobbs decision, he said, “I am a constitutionalist Republican and after Dobbs this is now a state matter.  Therefore, no federal actions or intervention needed.”

 

District 12

Darren Bailey

A former state representative and Republican nominee in the 2022 Illinois governor’s race, Darren Bailey is running in Illinois District Twelve. With regards to abortion, his campaign site says, “As a man of Christian faith, I know life begins at conception. We must do everything we can to protect the unborn. My firm stance on this issue helped me earn the support of Illinois Family Action, Illinois Federation for Right to Life, and Illinois Citizens for Life in my previous elections.”

Mike Bost

A former marine and firefighter turned small business owner, Mike Bost is running for re-election in Illinois District Twelve. His target issues include improving agriculture and moving towards energy independence. As for the abortion issue, his campaign site says, “Mike is unapologetically pro-life. He believes that life begins at conception and has been fighting for pro-life principles his entire adult life.”

 

District 13

Joshua Loyd

A recent West Point graduate, Joshua Loyd is running in Illinois District Thirteen. When asked about abortion policies after the Dobbs decision, he said, “This will ultimately come down to the state and whether or not they want to allow abortion, access to centers, and the funds required for such procedures.”

Thomas Clatterbuck

Running in Illinois District Thirteen, the key questions Thomas Clatterbuck wants to answer pertain to self-driving vehicles, biometric scanning, and artificial intelligence.

 

District 14

Jim T. Marter

Jim Marter’s campaign is centered around restoring the American Dream and restoring economic prosperity. When asked about future abortion legislation, he stated, “I am PRO-LIFE. The Child in the mother’s womb is the most innocent and vulnerable LIFE and has an inalienable right to live.  The LIFE of MOTHER and CHILD should always be protected. Medically both LIVES should be sought to be saved in the event of medical issues with the mother.   LIFE and Liberty those Unalienable rights endowed to ALL by our Creator, especially the most precious innocent life, the child in the mother’s womb should always be protected. Love them both, mother and child!”

Charlie Kim

Being a legal immigrant himself, Charlie Kim seeks to incentivize legal immigration by protecting the southern border and reducing the taxpayer burden. When asked about future abortion legislation and the Dobbs decision, he stated, “Every state must decide what is right for their citizens. This is now a state issue and not a federal issue.”

District 15

Mary Miller

After successfully winning a seat in 2020, Mary Miller is seeking re-election to remain a voice for farmers on the national stage. She fought against various pro-aboriton legislation, such as taxpayer-funded chemical abortions.

District 16

Darin LaHood

Darin LaHood has been a representative for Illinois District Sixteen since 2015. His campaign focuses include cutting government spending, agriculture, economic growth, and the 2nd Amendment. With regards to abortion, his campaign site states, “I am is 100 percent pro-life. In Congress, I will continue to be a strong voice for the voiceless, combating the radical Left’s support for abortion radicals and abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. In Congress, I will continue to fight back against the Democrats’ attacks and stand for our most vulnerable.”

District 17

Scott Alan Crowl

Scott Alan Crowl is a farmer running in Illinois District Seventeen. His primary campaign focuses are energy independence, immigration, and the federal budget.

Joe McGraw

Joe McGraw is a retired judge running in Illinois District Seventeen. His campaign site lists restoring law and order, the economy, cleaning up Washington, and taking on China as core issues.
