ILLINOIS RIGHT TO LIFE RESPONDS TO SENATE BILL 1909

(CHICAGO, IL) – – On Friday morning, the Illinois Senate passed Senate Bill 1909, which targets pro-life pregnancy resource centers by attempting to label legitimate services provided to women experiencing unplanned pregnancies as “deceptive.”

“Abortion advocates in the Illinois legislature demand that women have ‘choice’ – but all they’re accomplishing with this bill is eliminating women’s legitimate choices,” said Illinois Right to Life Executive Director Mary Kate Zander. “This bill is written to target pro-life pregnancy resource centers and carve out even more protections for abortion providers. It is a shameful display of politics at the expense of Illinois women.”

Pregnancy resource centers in Illinois provide a wide array of services at absolutely no cost to women – including STI testing, pregnancy testing, counseling, and ultrasounds, as well as connection to other resources, including Illinois Right to Life’s emergency grant program for pregnant women and moms, known as “Project Love.”

In fact, a study recently found that pregnancy centers are more likely than abortion providers to offer same-day appointments and free pregnancy testing.
